The End of the Cognitive Empire – experimental reading seminar
In his book “The End of the Cognitive Empire” Boaventura de Sousa Santos develops his concept of the „epistemologies of the south,“ in which he outlines a theoretical and methodological framework for challenging the dominance of Eurocentric thought. Santos suggests that global justice can only come about through an epistemological shift that guarantees cognitive justice. Such a shift would create new alternative strategies for political mobilization and activism.
We want to discuss the “epistemologies of the south”, as a way of decolonising cognition and methodologies. The book will serve for close readings and reflections but also experimentation and play. We will have workshop guests (Maque Pereyra/Yoggaton and Jee Chan/Stefan Pente) and the seminar will continue in the winter semester.
