1: Composer-Performer.  (Seminar)

This class would be open to students of any background. The focus is on all students developing and performing work, in solo as well as group situations. Students would start by creating cover versions, remixes and re-stagings of work they already know, and work towards creating their own pieces. No knowledge of musical notation is required, so it would be very easy for art and design students to participate. The class will draw on aspects of music, music theatre, theatre, dance, live art, performance art and visual art. We would do “soft interventions” within the town of Bremen, doing performances of Fluxus event scores and pieces the students would write, as well as sound walks. Each student would be expected to keep a journal online (Google Pages, a private Tumblr or blog etc) documenting their research over the course of the class. This would give me a sense of what they are doing between meetings. Students would work towards creating a performance event.

2: Sound + The Internet (Seminar)

This class would be open to students of any background. The focus is on students making work involving/addressing the Internet. Sound is an absolutely key element of post internet art and this class would position post internet art as an intrinsically sonic phenomenon. We’d start by looking at key historical net art pieces, and having the students make their own versions of them. Students would create ASMR channels, Internet sonic hoaxes, Twitter projects. No coding experience is necessary for this class, though coders are extremely welcome. As with the other class, each student would be expected to keep a journal online (Google Pages, a private Tumblr or blog etc) documenting their research over the course of the class. This would give me a sense of what they are doing between meetings. Students would work towards a public presentation, whether of online work or a performance.
